The working principle of indoor positioning with smart watches and Bluetooth BLE beacons
The main positioning method of the smart GPS watch is GPS, and this positioning method usually can only be used for positioning in an Open Sky situation. Although most smart watches can supplement GPS indoor positioning through base stations and WIFI positioning, it is difficult to achieve accurate indoor positioning, such as positioning to specific floors, specific rooms, etc. Accurate indoor positioning is very necessary for solutions such as smart elderly care, smart construction sites, mine management, airport staff management, large shopping mall security management, and prison management.

When we manage a multi-layer large venue, we typically cover each floor with Bluetooth BLE beacons, with an average density of one beacon per 50 square meters. Due to the low power consumption and long standby time of Bluetooth beacons, typically lasting 2-3 years on a single battery, the maintenance cost of installing Bluetooth BLE beacons is very low. After installing the Bluetooth beacons, when people wearing smart GPS watches enter these venues, the Bluetooth module in the watch will search for nearby Bluetooth BLE beacons, usually searching for two or three at a time. The Mac addresses of these beacons will be transmitted to the server. The server software can achieve accurate indoor positioning through the installation positions of these Bluetooth BLE beacons and multi-point cross-location, typically with an accuracy of 1-5 meters or even higher, precise to the floor and room.

Steps to achieve indoor positioning.
You can obtain accurate floor plans of the venue's various floors and upload the floor plans to your software to implement an indoor positioning map engine, which can convert the floor plans into maps with coordinate systems. This functionality can be achieved through many open-source tools, such as the Leaflet component we use.
The first step after creating an indoor map engine is to upload the floor plan and name it, for example, this is the first floor of Building X.
After uploading the plan, you can mark Beacon on the map with the actual installation point of Beacon, and add the Mac address and address name of Beacon, such as meeting room A, activity room B, etc. Using standard beacons, you will save the coordinates of the map and the name of the measurement chart for calculating the coordinates of indoor positioning.
The server software receives the beacon uploaded by the smartwatch, finds the coordinates of its installation through the MAC address of the Bluetooth beacon, and accurately calculates the position through multiple coordinates.

In the Traxben GPS Tracking system, select indoor location, choose location list on the menu page, and add the address to the menu.
